Bodylastics Bands Review

I’ve had my Bodylastic resistance bands for quite awhile now. The resistance bands come in different sets. There is a basic, max tension and max tension XT set along with a couple of Strongman sets, MMA and a superhuman strength set.

I have the Bodylastics Max Tension set that comes with 5 resistance bands (yellow, green, red, blue,black), 2 heavy duty handles, ankle straps, an over the door anchor, a travel/storage bag, and an instruction manual full of exercises that can be done. My manual is printed, but it looks like the newer versions come with a DVD based manual.

I also ended up purchasing a 23# band separately. The bands attach to the handle with metal carabiner clips. This means that you can add or take away bands to change the resistance level. I really like that. It allows me to add or subtract resistance quickly depending on what I am trying to do. I mostly use the bands for assisted pull-ups and dips. I can slide the handles onto my dip bar and then attach the bands to them.

I took some paracord and braided it to create a section of cord that I use to lengthen the handle for pull-ups. This allows me to adjust the height of the handle and I use it as a foot stirrup. I use it this way, If you choose to do it to, do so at your own risk. I haven’t had any issues and it works out good for me.

I saw a Bodylastics video on YouTube where they demonstrate an assisted pull-up. They use the ankle straps and wrap them around their thighs. They then throw the band over the pull-up bar and attach the carabiners to each ankle strap. I tried it that way and didn’t like it, so I did my own thing. The max tension set gives you 48 lbs on each side when all 4 bands are attached (totals 96 lbs. if using one arm). There is plenty of resistance here and you can always order heavier bands as you get stronger. The over the door anchor really adds versatility to the amount of exercises you can do. You can put it on the top of the door to do exercises like pull downs and triceps press downs or under the door to do rows.

If you’re looking for bands to do P90X, these should serve you well. I find that resistance bands are good for some exercises, while dumbbells and barbells are better for others. If you have limited space or just don’t want to deal with solid weights then these are a good alternative.
