Just in time for summer….

Swimming For Quitters: Learn How To Swim Calm, Smooth & Relaxed.

I released this learn to swim guide because even when I “learned to swim” in high school, I learned the hard way that I hadn’t. Most group swim lessons and even some private ones focus too much on kicking. Every time I hear “kick, kick, kick,” I get annoyed and upset. Why? Because I know that isn’t the best way to learn to swim.

Most beginning swimmers have a weak flutter kick due to limited flexibility in the foot and ankle, so they don’t generate much momentum with their kick. And the flutter kick is a tiring kick when you try to perform it as fast as you can.

With all that effort and energy expenditure, there’s also little movement. Needless to say, I don’t focus on flutter kicking much in my guide. I do explain that it’s needed more for twisting the body than for propulsion.

This guide is for anyone who has tried to learn how to swim and failed. I discovered the hard way that just because I could swim one length of the pool, that didn’t really mean I knew how to swim. Don’t learn the hard way like I did.

New 30 Day Experiment- Snatches

20 pound go fit vinyl kettlebell

20 pound go fit vinyl kettlebell

So it’s been two months since I ended the 30 day biceps experiment. So, what’s happened since then? I haven’t’ done any biceps curls since then and my arms have reverted back to 14.75 inches, which was my beginning arm size. But guess what, I didn’t regain the weight either.

If you read my end of the biceps experiment post, then you know I lost four pounds while on the experiment, without even trying.

Now I will be trying one arm kettlebell snatches with a light weight to see if I get the same type of fat loss results.

Aspartame in Vitamins

I used to take Flintstones vitamins every once in awhile as a kid and even as an adult. I liked the fact that I could split it in half easily to take a smaller dose if I wanted to. I bought a new bottle not to long ago and just so happened to read the label of ingredients one day as I was watching television.

Low and behold, what did I find among them? Aspartame. Are you kidding me? I couldn’t believe it. I instantly threw the entire bottle out, flushing my money down the drain. The other day I went back to the drug store searching and hoping that it was just that particular type, but nope. All the Flintstones vitamins for sale there included aspartame as an ingredient. Needless to say I am totally disappointment in their mother company for allowing this to occur.

I am now in search of a new vitamin. Any healthy recommendations?

What Will Happen To My Biceps By Doing Curls This Way?

As you may or may not know I like to do experiments on myself. My newest experiment will be a bicep curl experiment. My goal is to see what, if any are the effects of doing bicep curls with a light weight frequently.

My classification of a light weight is one that I can easily do 20 reps or more. This is what I will be doing…

1. I will do 20 bicep curls every day using a 15# dumbbell
2. I will do no more than 10 reps at a time
3. I will not do all 20 reps at once
4. I will split up the reps throughout the day so that the total for the day is 20.
5. I will do this everyday for 30 days
6. I will not do any specific triceps work (triceps ext, skull crushers)
7. I will continue doing other exercises like pull-ups, deadlifts and dips

Beginning on march 25, 2013 I will begin this program. I am curious to see what this will accomplish. Will my biceps get bigger? Will they get smaller?  Or will it just be a waste of time. I’ll post the breakdown along with my wod weekly log.

Day 1 arm measurement: 14.75 inches

Day 30 results are in: Read about it here–https://fsefitness.com/2013/04/an-end-to-the-30-day-biceps-curl-experiment/

Another Study On The Effects Of Tabata

Another study was done on the effects of tabata on females. The study was performed using a group of females around 20 yrs old. There was of course a control group along with second group that performed 30 minutes on the treadmill and a third group that performed a tabata style workout.

It was found that both the 30 minute and 4 minute group gained aerobic capacity, but the 4 minute tabata group also had good gains in muscular endurance. I believe these findings once again show that quick, low volume high intensity work can give better results than long boring cardio workouts.

Circuit training is a great way to burn calories and at the same time retaining your current level of strength, while you try to lose some pounds. Because of the way circuit training is laid out, it will give you a cardio endurance workout as well. Add in a tabata interval of cardio exercises and be done in under 30 minutes.

In this report I will give you a sample full body resistance circuit. I will also include a cardio chart of exercises you can do for the tabata session.
