Today was a bit cloudy and rainy. Now that schools out, the public pools tend to get a bit crowded, which makes swimming a bit difficult. But, in my experience, on rainy days most people don’t go to the pool.
So I dropped in, and there were only a few people swimming laps. I ended up swimming for about 1.5 hours. I think it’s funny how I don’t notice how tired I actually am until I leave the park and walking feels more difficult than usual.
Swimming can be deceptive. Since you don’t really sweat, you don’t realize how much the body is really working. After swimming more than 45 minutes, I find that my body is pretty much worked out for the day and I can’t really do much strength work if I want to be able to do anything the next day. Sometimes I even need the day after swimming off to rest. I totally believe in listening to my body, so if it feels tired I either rest or do only light exercise, like 10 pushups with my hands on the wall.
My eventual goal is to do the combat swimmer stroke for 500 yards in 10 minutes. Oh and did I mention, I just really learned how to swim. I could only float and do a kind of elementary backstroke before.
